About Us
Company History
The Tincknell Group is a family run business now in it's 4th
generation of management.
The business was initially established in the small Mid Somerset City of Wells
in 1925 by Robert Tincknell to meet the needs of the local farming community for
general blacksmithing and ironmongery products. By 1935 when Frank Tincknell
joined his father as a partner of R Tincknell & Son, the business had grown
steadily and employed 12 people trading and repairing agricultural machinery.
In 1954 the company also acquired a distributorship for petroleum products for
Shell Mex and BP Ltd for a limited area within a 15 mile radius of Wells.
Tincknell Fuels Ltd was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of R Tincknell & Son
to distribute Shell products throughout Somerset and parts of Dorset following
the separation of the shell Mex and BP brands in 1973. Gradually further
expansion took place North into Gloucester and south into Devon and Cornwall.
This means that today the company covers much of the South West of England
supplying Shell Fuels and Lubricants for Domestic, Agricultural and Commercial
use. Tincknell Fuels also has a very active Heating Services Division, providing
both oil and gas servicing, repair and installation support throughout the
Tincknell Fuels area of operation.
In 2006 due to the decline of the agricultural market it was decided that we
would concentrate on our key areas of business, this meant that we decided to
withdraw from the agricultural machinery market. However we have kept our 2
country stores in Wells and Congresbury and are looking forward to introducing
many new lines into these stores and our continued success with the Mitsubishi
dealership in Cannington
The Future
Now we have refocused our company we plan to continue to invest in the company.
For the last 5 years Tincknell Fuels has been investing in replacing their old
fleet of tankers which this year will be achieved, we are also investing in new
technologies in our depots making them safer and greener.
Our Country Stores continue to evolve and in keeping with company tradition we
hope to be able to continue helping the local farming community by selling local
produce in our stores.
